Institute of Mass Spectrometry Technology and Applications

The Institute of Mass Spectrometry and Applications was established in 2018, which is one of the first batch of key research institutes after Ningbo University was approved as one of the national “double first-class” disciplines, and it is also the only research institute in domestic universities with the main direction of mass spectrometry new technology, new methods and mass spectrometry application research. Led by Prof. Tang Keqi, a world-renowned mass spectrometry expert, the institute has established close cooperation with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), the most famous mass spectrometry research base in the world. It has a research team of more than 100 people led by one expert of National Talent Attraction Program, one Yangtze River Scholar of the Ministry of Education, three experts of Zhejiang Province Talent Attraction Program, and one expert of Zhejiang Ten Thousand People's Plan. It has been approved as the key laboratory of advanced mass spectrometry technology and molecular detection in Zhejiang Province and the engineering research center of high-end mass spectrometry technology and clinical application in Zhejiang Province, and has been selected as the top talent team of the Kunpeng Plan in Zhejiang Province, the top talent team of Ningbo City, and the overseas high-level entrepreneurial and innovation team of Ningbo City, with a total of more than one hundred million yuan of funding for the approved talents and projects. The construction area of the institute is 2700 square meters, and the original value of the equipment is over 68 million yuan.

With the direction of building a world-class mass spectrometry research, the institute aims at the urgent needs of mass spectrometry in national strategic fields such as biomedicine, new materials, food safety, environmental protection and national defense and aerospace, etc., and takes solving the related scientific and technical problems of mass spectrometry as the base to realize the independent innovation, technological development, fruitful application and industrial transformation of mass spectrometry instrument and its application. So far, we have developed several key components for mass spectrometry, such as new ion funnel, ion source, ion mobility, etc. We have also developed a number of mass spectrometry products to replace imports, such as portable gas chromatography-mass spectrometry coupled with portable photoelectric ionization flight mass spectrometry, some of which are the first in the international market, and have formed an impact in the field of mass spectrometry in the international arena. Tang Keqi mass spectrometry technology and application research team was awarded the “Top Ten” team of Ningbo University Innovation in 2022, and the high-performance portable mass spectrometry products of Tang Keqi team were selected as the “Ningbo Original”, “Ningbo Original”, “Ningbo Original” and “Ningbo Original” of Zhejiang Good Achievement in 2023, and “Ningbo Original”, “Ningbo Original”, “Ningbo Original”, “Ningbo Original” and “Ningbo Original”. The high-performance portable mass spectrometry product of Tang Keqi team was selected as “Ningbo Original” and “Ningbo Quality Product” in the conference of new materials of Zhejiang Good Achievements in 2023.
