There are 11 professors and 7 associate professors in the Institute of Polymer Materials. The Institute has more than 40 sets of advanced instruments and equipments such as high-temperature GPC, advanced expanding rotational rheometer, dynamic thermo-mechanical analyzer, small-angle X-ray scattering instrument, polarized hot-stage microscope, atomic force microscope, torque rheometer, universal mechanical testing machine, rubber processing equipment, etc., with a total value of nearly 30 million yuan. In the past ten years, the institute has presided over more than 20 items of National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 30 items of provincial and ministerial projects such as Zhejiang Leading Goose R&D Program, more than 50 items of municipal and departmental projects such as Ningbo “Science and Technology Innovation 2025” Major Special Project, and more than 30 items of R&D projects entrusted by enterprises. More than 500 SCI papers have been published in international professional journals such as JACS, AM, Macromolecules, etc., more than 100 national invention patents have been authorized, and more than 300 postgraduates have been trained.
Relying on the cultivation base of the State Key Laboratory of New Functional Materials and Their Preparation Science and the Key Laboratory of Special Polymer Materials Preparation and Application Technology in Ningbo, the Institute of Polymer Materials focuses on the key scientific issues of structural control and functional regulation in the synthesis and processing of polymer materials, and carries out the research on the directions of special polyolefins, functionalized elastomers and biopolymers, etc., so as to reveal the molecular design, physical regulation mechanism and processing technology of polymer materials, and to reveal the molecular design, physical regulation mechanism and processing technology of polymer materials. The research has revealed the molecular design, physical control mechanism and processing principle of polymer materials, and developed new processing technologies such as injection molding of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and supercritical carbon dioxide molding and foaming on this basis. The Institute is committed to developing into an academic highland with international influence, a research and development base for common technologies in the industry, and a leading position for innovation and development of related industries in Ningbo.
